Prepare for an epic 8-day journey to the Roof of Africa via the remote and scenic Rongai Route. Starting from Moshi or Arusha, this lesser-traveled trail takes you through quiet wilderness, alpine meadows, and volcanic landscapes, culminating at Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Itinerary Overview – 8 Days Rongai Route

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi/Arusha
You’ll be picked up from Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel. Meet your guides, complete gear checks, and receive a full briefing. Overnight in Moshi/Arusha.

Day 2: Moshi/Arusha – Rongai Gate – Simba Camp (2,650m)
Drive to Rongai Gate and start trekking through the rainforest. Enjoy views of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Overnight at Simba Camp.

Day 3: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp (3,450m)
Trek through open moorland with views of Kibo and the eastern glaciers. Camp at Second Cave for the night.

Day 4: Second Cave – Kikelewa Camp (3,600m)
A shorter trekking day for acclimatization. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you get closer to Mawenzi Peak.

Day 5: Kikelewa – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)
Steep hike to a scenic alpine campsite at the foot of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing.

Day 6: Acclimatization Day at Mawenzi Tarn
A vital rest day to help your body adjust to high altitude. Optional hikes around Mawenzi with spectacular views and photo opportunities.

Day 7: Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Cross the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Early dinner and sleep at Kibo Hut in preparation for your midnight summit attempt.

Day 8: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Horombo Hut – Return to Moshi/Arusha
Begin your summit push before dawn. After celebrating at the top of Africa, descend to Kibo, rest briefly, then continue to Horombo. Exit the park via Marangu Gate and return to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha.
