6 Days Lemosho Route Trekking

Overview of This Kilimanjaro Trek

The 6 Days Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the lush western forests and ascending through the vast Shira Plateau, this route offers stunning views, rich biodiversity, and a more remote trekking experience compared to the more popular paths.

Although typically completed in 7 or 8 days, this special 6-day itinerary is designed for experienced hikers or trekkers with good acclimatization preparation. It combines the beauty of the route with a slightly faster pace, still maintaining a high summit success rate.

The Lemosho trail passes through five ecological zones—from rainforest and heath to alpine desert and arctic summit. You’ll pass iconic camps such as Shira 2, Barranco, and Barafu before making the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.

Historically used by smaller climbing groups and researchers seeking solitude and untouched nature, Lemosho is now considered one of the top choices for serious trekkers due to its low traffic, scenic diversity, and acclimatization profile.

Let Origin Ventures and Safaris guide you safely to the summit with certified mountain guides, quality equipment, and unmatched hospitality. Challenge yourself on one of the world’s greatest trekking routes.

Why Trekkers Love the Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is more than just a trail — it’s an experience that offers breathtaking beauty, solitude, and a real chance to summit Africa’s highest peak with confidence.

Stunning Scenic Diversity

From dense rainforest teeming with wildlife to alpine deserts and glacier-clad peaks, the Lemosho Route showcases Kilimanjaro’s rich ecological zones like no other trail.

Low Crowds, High Solitude

Unlike the busier Marangu and Machame routes, Lemosho starts on the remote western side of the mountain, offering a peaceful and uncrowded trekking experience.

Excellent Acclimatization Profile

The gradual ascent and "climb high, sleep low" principle help your body adjust to altitude, increasing the success rate for reaching Uhuru Peak.

Perfect for Photographers & Nature Lovers

Sweeping views, dramatic sunsets, and rare high-altitude flora make the Lemosho Route a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike.

Challenging Yet Rewarding

This route offers a perfect balance — it's challenging enough to be rewarding, but not so extreme as to deter fit first-time high-altitude trekkers.

High Summit Success Rate

Due to its well-paced itinerary and excellent acclimatization, Lemosho boasts one of the highest summit success rates of all Kilimanjaro routes.

6 Days Lemosho Route Itinerary Overview

Join us on a condensed but stunning journey to the Roof of Africa. This 6-day itinerary follows the scenic Lemosho Route—offering dramatic landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and a rewarding summit experience for fit trekkers.

Day 1: Moshi/Arusha – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate for registration. After a short transfer to the Lemosho trailhead, you’ll begin trekking through the lush rainforest filled with monkeys, birds, and exotic flora. Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp) in time for dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)

Today’s trek climbs steeply through forest and transitions into the heather and moorland zone. Enjoy spectacular views as you reach Shira Ridge, then gently descend to Shira 1 Camp on the Shira Plateau. This remote camp offers a clear view of Kibo peak on clear days.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Lava Tower (4,600m) – Barranco Camp (3,976m)

This is a key acclimatization day. You’ll ascend to the dramatic Lava Tower, known as the "Shark's Tooth," for lunch. After spending time at altitude, descend to the beautiful Barranco Camp nestled below the imposing Barranco Wall. This climb-high, sleep-low approach helps your body adjust to the altitude.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)

A steady uphill trek brings you to Barafu Camp, the base for your summit attempt. Views of Mawenzi Peak and the southern ice fields set the tone for the night ahead. Rest early, hydrate well, and mentally prepare for your midnight summit push.

Day 6: Barafu – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Begin your summit attempt around midnight. Trek under a starry sky, passing Stella Point on the crater rim before reaching Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Celebrate briefly, then descend to Barafu for rest and continue to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
