Embark on an unforgettable journey into one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations. This 2-day safari to Ngorongoro Crater is perfect for travelers based in Arusha who want a short yet immersive wildlife experience. Known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," Ngorongoro offers dramatic scenery and unparalleled wildlife viewing all year round.
Day one begins with a scenic drive from Arusha through the beautiful highlands of northern Tanzania. Upon reaching the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoy a drive along the rim before descending 600 meters into the Crater — the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world. The Crater floor is home to a dense concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, and the rare black rhino. You’ll also encounter colorful birdlife, with flamingos, crowned cranes, and dozens of raptor species dotting the skies.
Pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi at 08:00 AM. Head to Arusha National Park (approx. 1-hour drive). Enjoy a short ranger-guided walking safari through montane forest—spot giraffes, zebras, warthogs, and colobus monkeys on foot.
Later, proceed with a scenic game drive to the Momella Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater Viewpoint, and fig tree arch road. Packed lunch provided in the park. Late afternoon transfer to your lodge near Karatu or Ngorongoro Highlands.
Early breakfast and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater—one of Africa’s natural wonders and home to the Big Five. Enjoy a 5–6 hour game drive on the crater floor with chances to see lions, elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, zebras, flamingos, and more.
Lunch served at a picnic site near the hippo pool. Afterward, ascend the crater and drive back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving by early evening.
